How do you stop your dog from barking?

I yell out to stop of course. Go out the back and admonish him (Bad Dog stop barking etc). Lock him in the shed for short periods of time. He has a Bark Collar on. The one that emits sound didn't stop him and his costing me a small fortune in citronella cartridges. It doesn't help that people bang on the fence to set him off...

Well, if people are setting him off intentionally, it is not the dog's fault. Yeah dog barking is annoying, I do not know if there is any easy answer. I would not punish the dog though, he is just trying to protect the property.

I have to remind myself of that at times when my neighbor's dogs are barking.

What does isolating him do???

You're taking a pack animal and confining it away from his pack (you and the wider) family. The only difference is that you understood time out - your dog doesn't know that you want him to stop barking and that you will come back and let him out in time.

Every timd he barked I just touched him on his nose, looked him in the eyes and firmly said "no". It took several weeks as he started barking less and less, but job done.
