Domestic cats versus domestic dogs? Probably cats because as someone else pointed out there are many strays.
But if you mean all cats, including lions and tigers, versus all dogs, including coyotes and wolves, I'd lean toward more dogs.
I haven't googled it and I could be wrong, but we see tons of coyotes in New England.

Cats. Too many are strays. You don't see many stray dogs.
just pets or including all the wilds and various sizes thereof?
I tend to expect there are more ... domestic sized/pet cats then typical domestic/pet sized dogs, but I expect the tables turn if you start including all the wild cousins and near misses - lions/tigers/pumas coyotes/wolves/foxen

Dogs more than double the cat population as pets. It’s not close at all.
