A question that I’m asking carefully…

Cute, and are tempted to feed the dog
Somewhat unpleasant; you’re hungry and would like to eat in peace !

How do you experience a meal while your friend’s dog keeps getting up in your face, begging for food ?

Sigh.🥺

Most people I know with dogs try to train them not to beg at the table.

In my daughter's house, the dogs are well behaved and stand to the side while we eat: but the kids had to learn that if they accidentally drop their food on the floor, it's fair game for the dogs!

I voted for the second option, but if a dog is not too demanding, I can imagine thinking it is cute, while not in the least bit tempted to give any food away.
@DrWatson You know, something occurred to me yesterday, and I’m glad I was cautious…this was her mother’s last dog, about 5 years old now, but the last one she adopted from the rescue. My friend’s mother passed away last year, too, the month after mine did. That could certainly be why she’s treating him with more leniency. 🥺

@bijouxbroussard After my brother-in-law received a kidney transplant, he and my sister got a dog, on the advice of the doctors, as a companion for him during his recovery. As things turned out, he came down with Covid, and with his weakened immune system, he died.

During that first year after his death, that dog was my sister's lifeline to sanity.

So, I can understand what you are saying about your friend's dog.
