I was worried my Guinea pig was lonely when in her cage after her best friend/sister passed sway in February
So I bought her a stuffed squirrel.
Day one she was upset, staring at it from far away, and walking cautiously toward it then running away. (Picture 1).
By next morning and ever since, she’s been cuddling up to it (picture 2).
Yes, she spends at least a couple of hours outside of her crate every day playing with us or cuddling with us, but when she’s in her crate, it was at that time that I was worried about her being lonely
They can live up to 30 years. When I was a kid I had one free range in a semi furnished fruit cellar (all furniture I found being thrown out). Found out it had been hoarding poop under a lazy boy I had down there. But I wouldn't cage a animal. I more recently had a bunny and she was free range too but was peeing on everything and dropping poops all over the place and jumping on me all excited as I slept and ripping my chest up. I had to get her fixed and move her to her own room.
That's my best advice. Give them their own room, get them fixed and get them a LIVE partner (doesn't have to be the same species, my bunny had two cats, I had to train the cats not to attack her, which is harder than it sounds as cats make poor school students). And make sure the chairs or sofa in the room can easily be seen under, cause these little critters like to hoard their poop, and hide when they are about to die. Guinea pigs are social animals and need constant companionship. Fix the companion first, or else you'll have tribble problems. And don't invite any Peruvians over, they eat Guinea Pigs.
@Theophrastus she needs to be in a cage where she is safe while I’m at work or asleep. I don’t have a room to give her for herself but I do let her run around whatever room I’m in when I’m home and I take her outside in nice weather every day. She doesn’t really move anywhere; just has her favourite spots in each room to chill.
@NativePortlander1970 Ok, Dud Dorite. I misspoke when I said hair, meant to say feathers. As for it's age, they said about 100 and it looked ancient to me. I didn't demand to see it's birth certificate.
