If his ear is badly infected he will feel nauseated almost constantly. I would take him to an entirely different vet...not even a branch of the same vet you have been seeing.

IF this is an external ear infection, it might be made worse by constant cleaning of the dog's ears.

IF the infection is in the middle or even deeper areas of the ear, it will not clear up without antibiotics.

I'm concerned that your vet gave the dog a steroid injection. He might be having a reaction.

"Short-term side effects
Short-term side effects are those that we expect a dog to experience when initially placed on corticosteroids. These side effects depend both on the type of steroid prescribed and on the dosage administered, and include:

increased thirst and urination
increased hunger
panting
general loss of energy
development or worsening of infections (especially bacterial skin infections)
vomiting or nausea (less common)"

@4meAndyou he had a reaction to the steriods we went to a different branch thank goodness. And he liked them better.
I did too.
The vet that spoke to me was so friendly and personable.
She talked me through everything and she was so reassuring.
It cost me an arm and a leg but id go back there everytime specifically because of the care they showed and steps taken to ensure they got to the cause.

It's really incredible to have a friend like you.
I really appreciate the time you take to try to help and even if it turned out this wasn't what was wrong with him, having someone even attempt to try help is truly amazing.
Your kindness never seizes to amaze me.
Thank you.

@Mellowgirl You are SO welcome, my dear friend. I think you have discovered that money is NOT an issue when it comes to our fur babies. It is a positive attitude and quality in care.

@4meAndyou agreed. My mum was shocked at the cost but its something I vowed to commit to, I will always find the money. I have to.

@Mellowgirl When my cat became diabetic I could not afford the insulin and the syringes and the special food...so my vet recommended a local pet charity, and they are now helping me by providing some of his special food.

@4meAndyou ahh that's incredible.

@Mellowgirl Be sure to ask your vet if such charitable assistance is available if you ever find that you can't afford things.

@4meAndyou a kidney infection in a cat can cause vomiting. But I don’t know about the diarrhea part though. I don’t know if it affects dogs the same way.

@cherokeepatti I didn't realize that all the Temptations cat treats and the food made from grain were making my obviously pre diabetic cat so sick. He used to throw up once or twice a week...but I thought it was because he was woofing down his food. He never throws up at all now that I have switched him over to fancy feast pate.

@4meAndyou My cat got sick from commercial cat food but I didn’t realize it at the time. Was reading a Holistic Vet’s column in the local newspaper and he would emphasize about diet and how commercial foods can cause so many problems. . She started having a lot of huge flakes of dry skin and she was twitching along her spine. Took her twice to the vet who gave her steroid shots and then she developed recurring kidney infections (would start throwing up) and diabetes and finally tumors.

@cherokeepatti That is so sad. 😟😟😟

My cat also began to have dry skin along his spine, near the tail bone, and began to lose his hair. Thankfully his new diet, and a couple of additives I put into his food, (1/4 tsp apple cider vinegar for possible mites, and 1/8 tsp powdered fenugreek seeds), have turned this around. His hair is growing back and he isn't scratching himself so often. I am think of adding some nitrate free bacon fat...maybe 1/2 tsp...to his food if I ever fry up any bacon.

@4meAndyou sounds good. It was Purina cat chow. And I’ve heard of animals getting tumors from Purina brands.
