My Parakeet, Ike, Has Changed His Tactics When We Are Having Dinner…

Last night we were eating our dinner and Ike started up with his squawking. I told him I heard him & to stop because we were eating dinner. He turned around and went to face the other cage with Boo-Boo near him and started saying “Parakeet, What Do We Get?” And he kept saying it. I think wanting to stir Boo-Boo up so he would start fussing after I scolded him for his squawking. These parakeets are like children, when you tell them to stop doing something they think of something different to annoy you. 😂🐦

That's a riot! Better start feeding him JUST before you sit down to dinner...maybe if he is stuffed and/or busy eating, he will leave you in peace. 🤣

@4meAndyou yeah, and they had to stay inside all day yesterday too, he probably wasn’t happy about that. I told him I would be glad when it warmed up so he couldn’t fuss at us at dinner time. He is very demanding. Talking to Boo-Boo and calling him “Parakeet” 😂

@cherokeepatti THAT was pretty funny. Does he ever call Boo-Boo by his real name? You must have taught him the word "parakeet".

@4meAndyou No I’ve never heard him say his real name. They learned “Parakeet” a long time ago. I showed them videos of parakeets on my phone and told them it was a parakeet. I also showed them a video of a peeping baby chicken and told the it was a chicken. One morning they were all chattering when I got up and I said “Good Morning, Chickens” to them and Ike said “Parakeet Bird” correcting me.

@cherokeepatti Well, Ike is right, Patti. You certainly should learn your birds....🤣🤣🤣

@4meAndyou I think they don’t like being teased. I teased Boo-Boo about his bell (he named her Bip-Bip and would talk to her and ask her what she was doing etc.) and he told me “shut up” 😂 like a kid who doesn’t like to be teased.

@cherokeepatti Awww. Sensitive!!! You are getting schooled! 🤣🤣🤣

@4meAndyou He heard me teasing the boy about something, I think I asked him if a girl was really pretty that he was talking about and the boy is sensitive had said “Shut up” 😂 because his sister and cousin had teased him so much when he talked about a girl in grade school. This was probably 6 months or more before Boo-Boo told me to shut up, he remembers things for a long time.

@cherokeepatti He sure does. He and Ike are parakeet geniuses!

@4meAndyou 😂 I decided to have a little girl talk with Kiwi last week. I told her I thought she understood what I was saying to her and I take care of her and this and that. She was looking at me like she understood every word and I kept talking. Well Boo-boo heard me talking like that to her and I guess he got jealous. Several times that afternoon he kept saying “Will you take care of me?” Like he was going to get neglected or something .

@cherokeepatti You had better sweet talk ALL of them, otherwise you will have sibling rivalry spats on your hands. 🤣🤣🤣 We don't want the feathers to fly, do we? 🤣🤣🤣

@4meAndyou I figured out tonight Ike’s problem is jealousy. I cleaned their cages, gave them food & water & greens this afternoon. I cooked about 4 things for dinner and put it all on the table. When we sat down to eat he didn’t beg for greens but he stared at us eating and said over and over “Will you take care of me?” I already took care of all the birds but he can’t stand to see me take care of anyone else. Maybe he feels left out. 🤔

@cherokeepatti And yet it was Boo-Boo who was originally feeling jealous of Kiwi. Somehow Ike picked up the same phrase, and HE wants you to take care of him, too. I think you had better put ALL the birds except Ike on the sunporch, and then give him some baby time, like you gave Kiwi.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou Ike would feel left out if the other birds were outside and he wasn’t. These boy birds act like big babies.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Yeah...kind of know that about self obsessed, demanding males...🤣🤣🤣
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou this telling me “Take care of me” over and over is a male attitude isn’t it?
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Sort of. It's also a child's attitude...same thing. They want Mommy. 🤣
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou he wants me to choose birds over humans.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Well, ask him how's it feel to want? 🤣. No...don't torture the poor little thing. You know when he's being unreasonable.
