Do you use coupons when you shop for groceries?

Do you think it's beneficial to do so?

I used to be a coupon queen a long time ago. You really have to have free coupon flyers in multiples to make it worth your while, and you have to visit at least five grocery stores or pharmacies to take advantage and double up on sales and coupons. I figured that I was earning about $6 an hour with the time I spent on it back then. I made 5 small grocery lists, and kept it to loss leaders and coupon items only.

I was buying 12 of each couponed item if I got it for free...(coupon plus sale). I ended up with a LOT of baked beans! 🤣

But it was a lot of work, and I had to save big to feed two huge guys and myself for $100 a week.

I read a study, later, which had reporters go out to the big box store, to a regular grocery store and use coupons, and another go to the regular grocery store and ONLY buy store brands. They all had to buy exactly the same thing.

Turns out that the person who bought ONLY store brands saved more than anyone.

@4meAndyou I have often wondered if it was worth the trouble. I only have one store in town to go to.
Thanks for sharing your experience, it was appreciated.

@ClassicRocker You are quite welcome.

@ClassicRocker Don't forget that some pharmacies and large retail stores carry some food items. My local Walgreens used to have eggs for 99 cents a dozen, for large eggs...and Target and Walmart sometimes carry food items even if they are not superstores.

Im rubbish at coupons I lose them..but in tesco here you don’t have coupons now..they just have dual pricing for clubcard so when you show your card at the till it takes the discount off.
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@SW-User we have something like that where I live but the discount is seldom on the foods I buy lol.

Usually the bulk stuff they want to clear right??? @ClassicRocker
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@SW-User that and food I don't eat.
Rarely. Coupons aren't as much of a thing as thing as they used to be. We use them for fast food but rarely for groceries.

@Spoiledbrat yea, I have noticed that too.

Do not have these down under at all - Sorry I believe this to encourage people to hoard and rip off the system
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@nedkelly not for most
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@nedkelly In a way that's how I feel about big club stores like Sam's club.

Sure - generally save at least another $8-$10 per week at the grocery store
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@MildlyInappropriate that adds up.
SW-User
I don’t but should
Even more so now with inflation
ClassicRocker · 56-60, M
@SW-User I am thinking about it myself.
