My poor kid had a lengthy conversation with ChatGPT trying to hook up his gaming headset to his PC.

It kept using phrases like “female end” and “male end” when discussing an audio splitter and he finally came to me to help him out.

When he asked me what it meant by those terms, I started laughing because I knew shit was about to get weird and comical. The best way to educate him on it was to show him the very basic and caveman-like explanation of it, which boils down to the inverted end of a connection…or hole resembling female genitalia, and the extended tip end resembling male genitalia, and the male end fitting inside the female end to form a tight connection.


The sigh he gave. Followed by an eye roll and the leftover teenage, “…really?” I laughed start to finish because it’s so primitive but makes complete sense when you think of it in basic terms. I apologized and told him we all had to endure that education at same point in time if we wanted to hook up anything technical.

We spent our entire morning troubleshooting even though I knew with it being plug and play that it should be incredibly simple to get working. But we still tried this and that only to discover the new branded headset he bought yesterday was at fault…while the backup one I had from ages ago with a brand name I can’t even remember worked perfectly fine. Thank heavens for that saving grace because I thought I had lost a ton on brownie points on the tech front. I need those in order to have an inflated ego as I try to sell people on the epicness of Zune players and how DIVX from Circuit City was going to revolutionize the world.
