Well into the 2000s my people fed wild spinach to cows and had no idea it is good for us

People knew we could eat it and it is safe, but it wasn't part of our regional diet.
When I travelled abroad and found out that's what spinach is, I found it very bizarre that foreigners were eating cow food

Same for lentils. It used to be cow food until the 90s

I think there is a pattern here with foods like this. Peanuts used to be pig-food before the Great Depression. The same with popcorn. Both ended up cooked and becoming a cheap snack.

So have both spinach and lentils made their way into the local diet?
