Who was your "One that got away?"

Closest i can even come to that was when i spent probably less than 3 months in this high school before i transferred to a different school, there was this boy who was really into me and i was into him too but i was so shy to talk to him. He was trying to send his friends over to ask if i liked him and i said yeah but we just were both too shy and i transferred out pretty quickly after.

One day not long after i was at the grocery store with my mom when she points out a boy at the register a few rows away from us. She said he was staring at me and trying to get my attention. I noticed him but was so shy i ran out of there.

I had low confidence as a teen but i always wondered, what if?

Hmmm. Not really 'the one that got away' but a huge 'what if'.
He was one of my best pals in high school. At 14, 15 or friendship was a bit flirty but i was very shy and totally inexperienced and all the girls adored him and he began dating a friend of mine at 15.
In the 6th form, we became close mainly due to our similar tastes in music.....and him constantly teasing me for liking some bands he thought uncool. He wrote me songs, sat in the cafe with me bunking off school. There was something quite wonderful between us, but...he was still dating my pal. I dated a friend of his for a short while, but our friendship was unaffected.
Then one day, when we were 17, someone told me he'd professed to them he loved me. It tainted things... coz....although i knew he did and i felt the same.... i was pertified to loose what we had. He was hurt i backed awsy from him...not knowing i'd been told what hed said. Months past and we hardly spoke.
He split up with his gf around about this time and one night, at a party he grabbed me saying we needed to talk. Another friend tried to warn me off....his ex was there and i 'needed to remember who my friends were and where my loyalites lay'
He told me he loved me and we held each other and danced together for about half hour. We shared our one and only kiss.
Things were never the same after that. He left school, i began dating an older guy.
We were still friends....but i guess we'd lost our window.
40 years later we are still in touch. He settled in Canada and when he comes home to visit family we still meet up. We get on like we did as teens and our hugs are just the best.
So.....if we'd dated....would we still have this lovely friendship? I doubt it. X

@RubySoo i remained friends with an ex from when i was a teen but my attraction for him is long gone and he knows its absolutely platonic. My younger brother was close with him so when we broke up my brother didnt take it well. He still hung out with my brother to continue to do brotherly things and almost 20 years later hes still a good friend to us both. So you never know. But the biggest thing is neither of us has romantic feelings for eachother since we were 16 and we respect eachothers relationships and partners. My boyfriends have always like him but we dont hang out alone

@DarkSideoftheMoon aww...i get that.
We were never a couple, so never broke up or fell out. Our other halves know how it was and how it is. They dont have a problem with us meeting up when hes in the UK. Its always in a public place. X
