I Am Shy

When I look back on it, I wasn't always shy. I used to be very outgoing and friendly. I knew just about everyone and everyone knew who I was (I apologize if I come off as arrogant, as that is not my intention). Every day, I was excited to go to school just to chat and hang out with people that didn't live near me. For those that did live nearby, we would always play sports after school; sometimes it would just be something as simple as running around for the heck of it (now that I think of it, tag was so much fun). Maybe once a week we'd see a movie or two as well. Then it happened, and it happened multiple times. It refers to moving, as I am part of a military family (both are no longer active duty, so we've been able to settle down for a while thankfully). Each time I became "the new kid", it just seemed so much different. I would make fewer and fewer friends, and hang out with those newer friends less frequently over time. I'm not entirely sure why that was the case, but that trend continued all the way through high school. I'm currently a student living on a college campus, but I find that I am simply unable to make friends and meet new people. On multiple occasions, I will walk out and around the campus, and try to talk to people randomly, and either I only get a one-liner like a simple hello and the person moves on, I get no response at all, or I can't even bring myself to say anything to them. Oddly enough, I think I'm quite fond of shy people, but I can't seem to stand or accept the fact that I am shy (or socially awkward may be the better term). Any ideas on what's going on and how I can become the outgoing and enjoyable friendly person that I once was?

I grew up a military brat until I was 18 and served myself for 10 years when I was 20 so I can relate with your post. Good advice from PB. If I can help let me know
