Selfish is when you take from someone else what could be shared to help them/when you're inconsiderate.
Considering yourself in itself is innate and something we can't escape. That's not selfish, it's human and fuels our needs.

I've noticed this too. But I think we need to find a new balance where we give/care to others and ourselves. My balance is simply including myself.

You're not. Where do these thoughts come from?

@Sylphrena my mistakes, if i hurt anyone unintentionally or even intentionally out of my own weakness or inability to change my behaviors. Someone i feel i am responsible for others bad actions ( even if so... i don't think i should be blamed for their bad actions.. )., i wish i have been more careful with them.

@sahi81 that's okay, you're human dear. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Everyone does things they regret at some point, it's okay. Your beliefs about yourself are hindering your growth. Challenge them. You are not weak, you are strong and you sound very kind & compassionate. The person you want to be is inside you.

You're not being selfish. It's possible (and very common) to love others in addition to yourself.

You can’t love anyone else if you don’t love yourself first.

you must love yourself first

From the input you’ve described from your mother, that’s not surprising. It’s not correct—loving oneself is not being selfish. But that message would be consistent with others you’ve received. 🥺
