Some people can be quite obnoxious

I went to the park with my mental health outreach worker to take a walk around the houses today and an old couple who saw me made comments on how bundled up and warmly dressed I was. I was dressed for a snowstorm they said and there was no snow coming. It’s not cold outside. I simply answered I am cold and that’s it. The old man replied are you from Florida or something? I rolled my eyes and simply ignored them and continued walking and my mental health outreach worker asked me did I want her to tell them it’s a sensory thing? No I said just ignore them. She told me she said it wasn’t peoples place to make comments on the way someone is dressed and to publicly put a stranger on the spot and she said it’s rude like asking a fat woman if they are pregnant or something. And there was this old guy who walked by us on the block who randomly said to us I just wanted to let you know you need to accept Jesus Christ into your life and be born again to go to heaven. And the old guy fist bumped the both of us. Seriously my mental health worker is a Christian but I said to her that was really random. She said well I guess he’s just spreading the word around. I find it presumptuous to tell someone they need to accept god into their lives. I told her about the police officer who questioned me on Monday. I didn’t tell my parents because I didn’t want to alarm them. She asked me if he asked me for my id I said no he didn’t. I said it was such a weird encounter. She said police not all but some will stop you for the most random things. He might have been concerned. She said the way I dress she wouldn’t say suspicious but maybe he thought something was wrong. She said you were lucky he wasn’t aggressive. Some police use excessive force because they get nervous and don’t know how to deal with issues in the community, sometimes they’ll even kill you. For reference my mental health outreach worker is a black woman. So I can imagine the disparity between our experiences. I’m white looking but mixed Portuguese Caucasian and Romani. I said I have heard of some cases I told her of police brutality. I know not all police are bad or corrupt. Some are though and there is a disparity between policing white people and policing racial minorities. I’m curious if she’s ever been called the cops on her for something stupid or been pulled over by a cop or approached by a cop when she was just minding her business. Luckily no one called the cops on us and there was no police officer in sight while we were walking around the area. I live in a white majority area and there have been documented cases across the country of nervous white people calling the cops on brown and black people for doing nothing except existing and doing normal things in public spaces. I’m well aware. I look white not mixed race ( Romani people are an ethnic minority originally from India from 500-1,000 years ago. ) I want to say most white people don’t do it. But the ones that do cause a lot of harm. And I know in certain neighborhoods crime rates are much higher. It is a tough complicated situation. I’m not saying don’t prosecute someone when they have actually committed a violent crime or when there is actual crime involved regardless if they are a racial minority or not. But when prosecuting petty crimes don’t use excessive force or brutality. Police do have a hard job to be sure but even my mental health outreach worker said sometimes people are not trained with how to deal with others and given enough education with how to deal with different matters.
