Why are airport staff in the US so rude?

I don’t understand why the airport staff in the US working in immigration and security so rude and strict. One guy shouted at me just because I used a tray to put my phone and wallet for security screening rather than placing it on bag at LA airport. Everywhere else in the world people are really nice and helpful.

As an occasional foreign visitor to the U.S.,I've never really had a problem - but I know what you mean,I always advise/warn friends and family members visiting the U.S.for the first time to be aware of that.
