Why are airport staff in the US so rude?

I don’t understand why the airport staff in the US working in immigration and security so rude and strict. One guy shouted at me just because I used a tray to put my phone and wallet for security screening rather than placing it on bag at LA airport. Everywhere else in the world people are really nice and helpful.

@nedkelly they do but even if you are polite some of them will pull some crap. One TSA in NYC was barking at us like she was herding sheep after we got off the plane. Very rude.

@nedkelly This is no excuse to be rude to those who are patient. I just feel these people want to make others feel like the victim just exercise their power.
