I Am Very Quiet Around People I Don't Know

I just find it so hard to talk to someone, let's say, sitting next to me in class. I need people to start talking to me or I won't say anything at all. This makes me wonder if I look like I'm rude, since I avoid conversation.

Omg, I am the same way. If anyone wants to meet me, they have to approach me and use small talk before I open up to them.... and that's if I don't avoid the convo.
