Do You Know Your Enneagram Type?

I'm Type 7: The Enthusiast.

Sevens are defined by their desire to experience everything good and pleasurable that the world has to offer, while avoiding pain, boredom, and limitations.

Although Sevens appear enthusiastic and fun-loving, deep down, they have a fear of getting stuck in negative emotions. Thus, they tend to disconnect from their deeper feelings, instead focusing on their imagination and zest for life to keep them moving forward and gathering new, pleasurable experiences.

Sevens aim to fill every minute with an activity. They approach life as an endless rollercoaster of fun, joyous experiences—and if not fun, at least not sad, bored, anxious, depressed or painful. Sevens use their charm, enthusiasm, imagination, and positive attitude to get as much enjoyment as possible out of every moment of life. Ideally, a Seven aspires to ride a continuous high, avoiding the drearier aspects of reality.

At their core, Sevens ultimately seek deep inner satisfaction, to live a truly meaningful and satisfying life. However, they can sometimes become confused about what it means to get the most out of life, becoming distracted by momentary pleasures rather than pursuing the truly meaningful. Sevens often get caught up in trying every option they have available, becoming frustrated when they run into limitations that stop them from exploring a potential path. Unless a Seven has developed a level of comfort with boredom and even pain, they will have a tendency to consume experiences without being satisfied by them.

Strengths
- Enthusiasm for life
- Optimism and positive thinking
- Ability to imagine possibilities and brainstorm many ideas
- Adventurous, playful, and spontaneous
- Future-oriented and able to generate excitement about possibilities

Challenges
- Struggle to focus and avoid distractions
- Find it difficult to deal with limits and constraints
- More easily sees what is imagined, rather than reality
- Fears commitment and the boredom that may come with it
- Has trouble staying in the present moment

Seems to fit. What's yours?
I saved this post. I took the test just now.

I’m a 7️⃣ like you.

Type Seven Overview

We have named this personality type The Enthusiast because Sevens are enthusiastic about almost everything that catches their attention. They approach life with curiosity, optimism, and a sense of adventure, like “kids in a candy store” who look at the world in wide-eyed, rapt anticipation of all the good things they are about to experience. They are bold and vivacious, pursuing what they want in life with a cheerful determination. They have a quality best described by the Yiddish word “chutzpah”—a kind of brash “nerviness.”

Although Sevens are in the Thinking Center, this is not immediately apparent because they tend to be extremely practical and engaged in a multitude of projects at any given time. Their thinking is anticipatory: they foresee events and generate ideas “on the fly,” favoring activities that stimulate their minds—which in turn generate more things to do and think about. Sevens are not necessarily intellectual or studious by any standard definition, although they are often intelligent and can be widely read and highly verbal. Their minds move rapidly from one idea to the next, making Sevens gifted at brainstorming and synthesizing information. Sevens are exhilarated by the rush of ideas and by the pleasure of being spontaneous, preferring broad overviews and the excitement of the initial stages of the creative process to probing a single topic in depth.

Very interesting. Based on what I've seen of you here, I'm not surprised you're Type 7.

I'll have to take the test and see where I come out.

@ChampagneOnIce This is what I got. It suggests I'm a 6, though the graph shows I scored about as high as a 1 and a 4. I followed Magenta's advice and was able to find some details about Type 6. Much of it fits, but it seems like an exaggerated version of me. Maybe that's where my Type 1 and Type 4 traits come into play.

ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Rutterman Interesting! Yes, I think many of us are a combination of types. We’re complex people. :)

@ChampagneOnIce Took it and got type 4: The Individualist. But I'm not going to pay for the full report, lol.
Here's a little bit of the results.

"Enneagram Fours have the motivational need to express their uniqueness and be authentic. Fours value individualism and as a result, feelings, self-expression and purpose will be important to them. They are quite romantic at heart and appreciate beauty and creating meaning for themselves and for others. At their best, Fours are experienced as sensitive yet content. They offer the gift of equanimity and authenticity to themselves and the world. A less healthy Four may feel misunderstood, while others experience them as melancholic and temperamental. This pattern stems from the Four’s acute awareness of their own wounds and flaws."
SweetMae · 70-79, F
That makes you a very interesting person.

I haven't taken the test yet.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F

From the Wikipedia article:

While Enneagram teachings have attained some degree of popularity, they have also received criticism including accusations of being pseudoscience, subject to interpretation and difficult to test or validate scientifically, "an assessment method of no demonstrated reliability or validity".[37] In 2011 the scientific skeptic Robert Todd Carroll included the Enneagram in a list of pseudoscientific theories that "can't be tested because they are so vague and malleable that anything relevant can be shoehorned to fit the theory".[38]

A 2020 review of Enneagram empirical work found mixed results for the model's reliability and validity.[39] The study noted that the ipsative version of the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (scores on one dimension decrease scores on another dimension) had troubles with validity, whereas the non-ipsative version of the test has been found to have better internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Furthermore, it was found that 87% of individuals were able to accurately predict their Enneagram type (before taking the test) by being read descriptions of each type.[39]

In a Delphi poll of 101 doctoral-level members of psychological organizations such as the American Psychological Association, the Enneagram was among five psychological treatments and tests which were rated by at least 25% of them as being discredited for personality assessment. Experts familiar with the Enneagram rated it with a mean score of 4.14 (3.37 in the first round of the study) which is approximately an equivalent to the option "probably discredited" (3 = possibly discredited, 4 = probably discredited, 5 = certainly discredited).[40]
