Open-Minded

I feel like my value is to understand what I don't know. I have a deep curiosity about most all things, and to understand those things, I have to have some degree of open-mindedness.

I have learned many things by challenging my own biases and perspectives, and I have learned many things by allowing others to tell me their perspectives on issues. The goal in trying to understand isn't that I have to be right. I don't have to push what I believe on others, and I don't have to adopt what others believe into my life either.

What I do get to do is understand how other people think and why they think how they do, because of how I approach learning about a person or other things that I don't understand. I recognize what may be right for me could be completely different for someone else, and I am okay with accepting that.

I do hope to receive the same grace I give to others, but if I don't, then I know when to walk away. I would say I am pretty open-minded, with a few exceptions that just cannot be crossed.

Way back on EP I was thinking the very same thoughts. Stay open-minded. I still try to do that, but the reactions to opinion let alone argumentation is very often either bullying (sometimes by a set of two together) or the blocking.

If there are people out there that think that they either know it all or that there should indeed be only "good people" then they're wrong. I got blocked on here for being Church of England and believing in female priests.

Yes, I do hope that you'll receive the grace that you clearly deserve. At times I don't get it on here. Someone actually apologized for saying "take your pills" only two months later. Oh yes, another thing. I've always been myself. ValR on EP and now Val70.

@val70 I will block someone if I feel they are being abusive to me. People can have proper conversations about anything and it can be cordial and respectful. I don't care if we have a difference of opinions but lets come at it like we are buds talking not like we have to fight over something. I won't block or try to call someone names when I think they are wrong. I don't know anything about priest so I don't know how sensitive of a subject that is but it seems plausible to me I don't know why not.

good contribution to the post buddy.

@DeadOrbit Thanks. All the best for you too. The head of the Church of England is now a female and that was only a couple of years after I got blocked because of my views that were, I think, even mainstream.
Definitely can't expect the same grace or curiosity from others. That will be endlessly disappointing. But I applaud you and hear you. I did this work years ago and still do but it holds no weight because of what I learned.
Agree !

But dont expect this "do hope to receive the same grace I give to others, but if I don't, "
