Go tell that to a public school teacher. Being disrespected is their bread and butter. You can't control what people do to you,just how you react to their disrespect. Nobody can make you react negatively without your permission.

People can do whatever they like. But only you can choose how you respond or react to it.
And yes that takes a lot of self awareness and mindfulness .
