I Like People Who Are Open Minded

The name of this post is true, but some people confuse "open-minded" with being nasty or mean.

I am moving out to another apartment in a matter of days. I got an EMail from my present landlord (Schiller Management) ALREADY asking for next month's rent. I don't owe this to her, as the rent is due between the first and the third of the month - when I get paid by Social Security/Disability. My charming brother was at work, and the recording on his phone said "Leave a message". He doesn't like long messages or even long sentences, so all I said was, It's me. Please call me when you get time - not during work. Talk to you later. 'Bye."

This means, call me on a break or at lunchtime. But, nooo - he has to call me as soon as he gets the message. The reply to my "Hello?" is an abrupt, "What's up?"

He has told me not to call him "unless the house is on fire" but I think that is neither funny nor clever. I try never to call him on ANYTHING, and he knows it. Full well. But between the reason I called and his reply, I encountered another EMail, which was a reply to the real estate lady who is handling my final move out. She is asking for the money right away, and payment made online.

Have checks gone out of style? I have had a checking account since I started working, and so does my brother. But he spoke to someone in the same office who told him that "checks were all right" to make this said payment and I wanted to ask about it. And I could have waited until his lunch. But he was growly and abrupt, and started to cut off an explanation with, "I'll talk to you at lunch." Just TELL ME SO and don't grouch if you answer your phone! I can wait - so can you - can't you?
