I Am Open Minded

I am very open-minded, but that does not make me tolerant of anything and everything. I am not a relativist.

I can entertain ideas without letting my gut reactions rule me. That's basically the definition of open-mindedness.

I am not, however, and will likely never be, of the mind that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some opinions are half-baked, under-researched, or based purely on gut instinct. There's no reason to say that those opinions are as valuable as some others.

There's a pretty scary meme, particularly in America, that people have the right to say whatever they feel, and they have a right not to reap the consequences. Neither of these facts are true.

I am open-minded, but that doesn't mean that I won't say something that might offend you.

Well, I mean I don't like Neo-Nazis spouting stuff in the streets but the second America starts saying "Hey, you can't say that" is the same day they will say "Hey, you can't do that" and everything will go to hell, but I get what you mean, I know this post is out of context a bit but just wanted to point out my opinion, even though...it's not what you were talking about...nvm.

@Dorko7390 I get what you're saying, I think, and it's a good point: It's possible to go too far the other way. I'm a big fan of freedom of speech, so no worries there!

We kind of already do have laws that discuss the distinction between saying and doing. For example, you can't go to prison for thought crimes in America -- for thinking in your head about killing someone, or even writing it, but you can and do go to prison for actually killing them.

Good distinction, though! Really smart.

(after reading into the post a bit more. sorry if I misinterpreted it or messed something up, which I probably did) I also understand your point (Which is actually kinda the same as mine so nvm) and yes, there should possibly be something done about people legit having murder tendencies, like therapy. But a law like that would be too convuluted, confusing, and could not work, it would need to be very toned down and so specific it would only be relevant a few times a year, maybe even less. But if we did have some sort of capability to do that, then you do hold a strong point. But when it comes down to political opinions that are not simple murder, or geonocide, or etc., for example just political stuff like Neo-Nazis or being apart of a gang, then that stuff should just be left alone and let people have freedom of speech. Even if said political thing, involves geonocide, as long as they don't say themselves they are going to do it and there is enough proof to support them doing it, then they should be left alone
