I Am Not Your Stereotypical Anything

I had some great professors in college. There were also some though who I could tell didn't expect much out of me, most likely because I'm Hispanic. I proved them wrong and surprised them.

Yea ,as a child I was told over and over I would never amount to anything
When I started playing guitar I was told I would never be a pimple on a guitar players butt
I spent a lifetime trying to show them all how wrong they were,
I would be successful ,and I have been ,and many very famous guitar players have said they love my style and I can play ( I still hear the voice sometimes that says I can't )

But now that I am older and look back ,,,,who were they to talk crap to anyone

All I needed to do to do better than them
was support myself and not need any help from Mommie and Daddy
These people were still needing their Mom and Dad to help them
I had already done more then all of them before I joined the service

None of them ever got to say they ran boats that said
United States Coast Guard on the side of it ,,,I have

Or worked on or actually operated the Locomotives that ran through our town everyday ,,,I have

People don't get ,word's do hurt ,and they scar
But we need to learn from there example ,,and never do that to anyone ourselves

I never had to go back and say Now ,,what did you say about my guitar playing?
I did feel proud when they asked would I autograph my album for them
and they bragged they were related to me
maybe I should have thanked them ,,,I just had to prove they were wrong
