I Am Not As Innocent As I Seem

This has always been a pet peeve of mine. When I was a child and even a teenager, it still annoyed me, but it was understandable. Now that I'm in my 30s, people often still just assume that I'm a fool. For example, two of my male coworkers today were making some sexual jokes. One is my age; the other is about ten years older. Then my female coworkers, most of whom are younger (the youngest is still in high school) were all concerned. They asked, "Do you know what they're talking about?" Then later on, once we got back to work, the female coworkers said, "Ignore them; they're a bad influence."

"A bad influence on whom?" I asked.

"On you!" they replied.

"Me? Y'all are the ones still in high school and college!"

I just don't get it. This is a brand new job, by the way, so it's not like we've known each other that long. I've been working there for just over a week now, and they're already assuming I'm some sort of innocent boy who doesn't know what a vagina is. What in the actual fuck?

This is just one example. I can't think of another off the top of my head, but this happens on a pretty regular basis, especially with mild acquaintances (my close friends know thankfully that I'm just a normal guy in his 30s). I just don't get why people make this odd assumption about me that somehow I need to be protected from dirty jokes.
