Why when people grow up do they stop being enchanted or imaginative ?

Around the age of 40 I started realizing that my window for being who I really want to be is closing. So instead of making 10 year plans for projects, career goals, major purchases, I only have 5 year targets now. My mortality is becoming apparent to me.

Keeping this in mind, it started making sense to me that taking huge risks like just going off and joining the war in Ukraine, or putting all my money in AMC stock, or basing my entire life around marriage to a woman are not wise decisions.

I have imagination. I have the same dreams I had when I was a kid but as you get older you experience more shit and the pain of failure gets way more real to you because you have already experienced it VERY personally. So while it may seem that older people do not have imagination or enchantment, the reality is that they are more conservative because they have seen more and felt more and when they failed it was so very painful,

That being said there are definitely times when old people just don't give a fuck. Like they just go ahead and bet their whole life on a thing. I have a few things like that as well.
