Pick what matters. People worthy of listening to add to your worth, not try to lessen it.
It isn't the first time I experienced encountering judgmental folks here, so I feel I have to make a post.
The first time, a guy tried to make me feel bad for still watching cartoons for relaxation at my age. Then just recently, someone commented a vomit emoji when I used the word 'Toodles'. Back in college, my thesis groupmates were very open to their judgement when I said I like Taylor Swift and One Directions.
I let some of it slide at some point, but then now I think, perhaps that wasn't right. Because then they will feel more empowered, and more and more people will do the same and try to make other people, especially girls, insecure.
You know what, I'm putting a foot down. A person can like a certain band or show or thing and your negative opinion won't lessen his/her value.
You projecting your own shallow judgements and ridicule when someone likes what you don't like and then trying to make them feel bad for not being the same as you, now this is what I'd call childish behavior. Not the cute kind, mind you. The insecure pathetic kind. Even children raised properly could act and react better than you.
And fellow girls, please, always live to your worth. Learn to filter what you ponder on. Learn to choose the words you take at face value. Not everyone's opinion should matter to you. Whether they come from a random stranger or someone you know, pick what you accept and what you reject.
You can like cartoon and still be a cool epic hardworking badass woman. Don't let anyone's insecurity make you feel bad about yourself. You define your value. You know your worth, how hard you've worked, the ups and downs and all the lessons you've learned that made you who you are.
Just because someone's categorizing you into their own metaphoric boxes of judgement doesn't mean you have to do the same. Take their opinions as garbage and just do you. You know you're heading somewhere they can't even dream of going. Leave them to their own little shallow worlds. We're meant for bigger, greater things that they have no place in.
Leave them to think they're sharks in their little puddle. We're made to conquer the ocean.
