I Am a Computer Geek

Back in school their idea of "IT" was to go over and over Microsoft Office for six years. We just played flash games. Despite that, I have some degree of a knack with computers, but thanks to them never considering programming a thing, I'm mostly specialising in the hardware and general troubleshooting. I still resent the complete worthlessness of the computing curriculum this country had when I was growing up, but such is life. I just wish I was a better self-teacher in that sort of stuff.

That was not IT back in my high school. It was this:
- ALGOL
- BASIC
- Pascal
- Hardware basics, building various builds
- Electronics education
- basics of TCP/IP
- number theory, logic theory
- Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access
- Computer mathematics and computational equations

Yeah, that would have been nice. For a long while though there was a period where they were catering only to the whole "service economy" crap, and cut out anything that involved actually producing stuff. I hear there was some programming at around A-level, but by that point it was way too late. Nowadays they've reformed it though, so that computer programming is something they do right from the off in secondary school I believe.
@Gauntlets28: That is true, hence the Pascal I mentioned.
