I Am A Nerd
I am, and always have been, a NERD. I probably have a big chunk of OCD - though manageable - thrown in the mix as well.
I have always counted. I used to count the steps taken to my classes - including law school - from my apartment in college - and back again; I count the number of seconds that I shampoo and then rince my hair and body; I used to count - while driving for 40 years as a mover/truck driver - the number of short white lines separating lanes, or the number of reflector posts per mile; I still count - after living in the same house for 18 years - the number of steps up to our front porch or the number of steps to the basement EVERY time that I go up or down them; I count everything!
I have always loved museums - especially science, math, or natural history ones - to the exclusion of all other attractions. My cousin - a female Nerd - and I used to spend the day at the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus , Ohio, while her sister and my sister (nine days different in age) were shopping at Westland Mall or downtown at Lazarus.
We were NERDS; they were SHOPPERS!
By the way, do you know what CDO is. That is a person whose OCD is so bad that they have to alphabetize it!
I gave gotten to age 66 - will be 67 in 2 months and 25 days - with my OCD and Nerd behavior - as my constant companions. I have taught high school in Costa Rica, attended the University of Kentucky law school, and have worked 40 years as truck driver with them by my side.
I believe that I can keep it - them - all under control - the mantra term for both OCD folks and Nerds - for a few more years.
As a Nerd, I always sign my username to my posts ir comments. It's not just that I want to; I have to!
