I used to think if you jumped out of an airplane ✈ on a chair 🪑 and jumped off the chair right before it hit the ground you’d survive in perfect condition.

That's a variation of the falling elevator.

If the elevator cable breaks, and it starts falling with you inside, can you save yourself by jumping just before the elevator crashes in the basement?
