Feeling different

I've always felt different from my family because of the advanced vocabulary I had as a child. Reading the encyclopedia at age 8 for fun. I want to study and read so much on both anthropology and philosophy. I feel like I have to dumb myself down just to feel normal. I read and wrote at a 9th grade level in 7th grade. I try to hide how smart I am by using more simple speech even tho I know smart words that most don't know the meaning of or how to speak with them. I wish I was able to fully be my true self and not hiding my 125 IQ

Don't hide your brains, be proud of them -- just don't treat other people as inferior.

@ChipmunkErnie the things I like are stuff that my family would never even care about. It's so hard to find people to have Intelligent conversations with. Or to study something so thoroughly that others think I'm weird for being so interested in. I don't know where my intellectual ability came from because none of my family are huge readers. My sister would tease me for reading the encyclopedia when I was little

@ChipmunkErnie I was reading massive volumes of the encyclopedia for fun as young as 8 years old. I would get a few volumes and sit on my bed and read for hours. Loved it

@dianekrivera5525 All I can say is be yourself. I didn't have your problem: my family was always BIG into education, filled with teachers, professors, medical professionals, and I was always encouraged to follow my interests in reading, art, etc. And one of the things I loved as a kid was checking out stuff in the Encyclopedia. I even still have a 1914 encyclopedia that my grandfather wrote an article for.

@dianekrivera5525 I liked old encyclopedias because they often had extensive articles about stuff that was replaced by newer material in more recent volumes.

@ChipmunkErnie I remember being at school as a kid I would sometimes would bring a book out for recess and go to a very quiet place behind a tree and read the whole time. I was teased for it asked why do I have a book with u. I read for a few hours at home after doing homework. I always had a book with me when I went somewhere.

Recently got into philosophy too and been a huge anthropology nerd forever. Human evolution especially.

@ChipmunkErnie I was only like 8-10 years old when I read them most kids that age are not reading that stuff. I was considered a weird kid

@ChipmunkErnie encyclopedias have such a massive plethora of reading material filled with various topics.

@ChipmunkErnie my grandparents were impressed with the big words I spoke when I was a kid. They had no idea what I was saying . My mom told me to stop speaking like that because no one understood me.

@dianekrivera5525 That's kinda sad. :(

@ChipmunkErnie so I would speak with more simple speech and it dumbed me down and I've been embarrassed about my brains. Reading was a natural thing for me like breathing unlike my sisters who struggled to learn.

@ChipmunkErnie I didn't like it but I didn't know how to just be so called normal
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@dianekrivera5525 You are normal as far as I can see.

@ChipmunkErnie I felt so much worse about being intelligent when I was younger I would not think I was anything unique and still dont but I'm now I'm beginning to wonder. There is something different about me that has been so wrong I'm trying to accept. I'm smarter then my family and it makes it really hard to relate to them especially my sisters
dianekrivera5525 · 36-40, FNew
@ChipmunkErnie they see me as weird.

@dianekrivera5525 That's their problem.
