I agree. Some people don't just dive right in. It's just an ice breaker.
@Tumbleweed Sometimes on some people's profiles, there's not a lot to comment on. No posts, no about me, minimal groups etc. You feel like a "cold-calling vacuum sales person" on that first attempt to communicate.

Sure but online it feels like such a waste of time 😆
“Hey”
“Hey”
“How are you”
“Good and you”
“Good”
-silence-
“So what are you up to”
And so on. I probably had hundreds of intro’s like that and it’s pointless to some extent. I can already tell I won’t like the rest of the communication.
It’s not that I want to be rude or disinterested, but I’m already annoyed when conversations all go like that 😂 if people want my time which I find very valuable these days, they better say something worthwile or I won’t reply much and definitely not deep. I have no need for superficial time loss 🤷🏻♀

100% agree with this and it reflects my experience as well. Well stated!

I hate the fact that it's more likely to get a response keeping it simple, but making greater effort often gets negative results

for me, hi/hey/hello is fine. if you get too invested in initiating a conversation with a woman
and she ignores you,
you just feel like a clown.

I'm personally not much for it. I assume they are after the obvious online.
