Am I an idiot for not taking care of this already?

I'm in some pretty bad medical debt because a hospital referred me to a specialist surgeon who basically met me for maybe 10 minutes and then said, "You don't need my help" and walked out. That was almost a year ago and I just never took care of the charges despite interest building up because I'm depressed and prefer avoiding things because I just assume nobody will care what I have to say about it lol. Now I'm sure that 2k dollars is a lot more than 2k dollars.

Are you in the US? I ask because a lot of times hospitals will work with you and reduce your debt if you qualify for assistance. I just had a $3,000 bill get reduced by 25% because I qualify for their assistance. You do not have to be below poverty level. If they won't reduce the bill they often will allow payment plans
@SlippingAway I am in the US but the bill is for a private facility, not the hospital. The hospital just referred me there.

@SinlessOnslaught I am sorry I misread that, it's tougher with a private facility. I'd still see if they would be willing to give you some assistance it doesn't hurt to ask, I have a family member that works for a doctors office and they sometimes will lower the bill if someone commits to a payment plan but that's up to the facility.
@SlippingAway You didn't misread anything, I probably wasn't clear enough.

I just need to take care of this but I'm scared to even look at my credit score or the charges.
