I Believe Good Manners Is Not Old Fashioned

I grew up imn the 50's and manners were very important. In those days "please/thank you" were always required. Open the door for adults and letting them go first. Keeping elbows off the table and certainly not using fingers to eat with. It did make for a better society. If either my brother or myself forgot our manners we had an appointment with dad when the strap was smacked hard on our bare bottoms...you soon learnt your manners. I thick piece of leather firmly applued to a young boys bare ottom is a first class teaching aid. i used the same method on my sons when they grew up, and they use it on their sons. Manners do matter.

My father was strict on this.

@MrsPeterEvans in todays world they still matter. AS for the swearing you hear from 10 year olds today, in my day and indeed when my boys were growing up, it would have resulted in removal of trousers and pants and no holding back aS SIX OF THE CANE SMACKED ACROSS THE BARE BOTTOM....society does not care these days.

@MrsPeterEvans YES...I know children use to have to wash mouths out with soap for swearing bu i never had to do this nor did my sons. It was a vey sore bottom each time.In those days if you did wrong dad would tell you to bare your bottom and bend over. It was soundly whacked. Todays kids would not even bend over...they think they can do as they like most of the time. My grandson was deeply shocked, aged 7, when he answered me back and the next thing he knew he was over my knee having my hand on his bare bottom. He found out grandad had hard hands and could sting a little boys bottom
