So much patience is revealed in beautiful old things

Force shows. Hurry shows..and patience shows.

When you rush, it talks back ..tsk… krrrrr.

My grandfather knew that sound. He would smile, ask me to slow my hands and try again.

He treated the old phonographs the way he treated time; so gently, no shortcuts.

If the music wobbled, hissssss, he didn’t scold me or the machine. He asked me to adjust myself.

He listened to every record all the way through. Not every song was his favorite, and plenty of these records were damaged, yet he said skipping was leaving things incomplete. Every song deserves a chance to be heard. And there are little things that can only be understood in the waiting.

When the music ends, it goes ...tick… tick… tick... Like grandpa I always let it turn once, maybe twice. The silence gives much space for thoughts.

The small sound at the end..the last tick is where he still is. And when I place the needle back ..click. I think to myself this was never about the phonograph. It never is and it never will be. I can listen to this again tomorrow.

It's certifiably cool to have an old phonograph. ty for sharing ☺
Beautifully written, evocative, a life lesson, a special man. ❤
Mr. Rogers said, “The most important part of any text is the space between the paragraphs. Those spaces give you time to think about what was said.”

Lovely writing.
Do you manually wind this phonograph to power it?
Which song / artist is this?
