I just discovered I'm an empath. I always thought that was a twee label for emos etc.

I finally understand why I find it so difficult to make hard decisions involving people.
I actually feel other people's difficult emotions and pain so deeply it hurts and I try to avoid that because I want to protect them and myself. I even feel animals (projected) feelings/pain. Any tips for navigating the world as an empath?

Just be yourself. I never would have considered it possible to care for people I didn't know, but reading some of the posts here I can feel the pain of the people posting, and it makes me immeasurably sad, and wishing to offer support and encouragement.

@SW-User Hey. Here's a definition I found - Empaths are highly sensitive individuals, who have a keen ability to sense what people around them are thinking and feeling. Psychologists may use the term empath to describe a person that experiences a great deal of empathy, often to the point of taking on the pain of others at their own expense.

Just embrace it 😌 be careful as we attract narcissists, they feed of empaths.

@Fairydust I had a narcissistic boss for 7 years. She messed with me so bad but I needed the job. I complained for years and finaly got the union involved. I'm so much happier now that I'm not there anymore. The pay cut was worth it.

@BrownRice yeah they’ll take advantage of your personality sadly. Good you took it further.

@Human1000 You're probably a good team if you can meet in the middle :)
