I think @MrAverage1965 has it pretty right: ppl come and find a nice post, but realize that their response will only look like repetition of another answer/others' answers...so they hang back.
The way our current culture revolves around spectatorship is sad. People get wound up about sports they don't/can't play, and, while TV could be bad enough, we now have ubiquitous videos and music in which to immerse ourselves and be even more passive, if we chose or allow that.
It is perhaps worst that so many approach education and culture as passive activities. We don't need new boards in our schools; we need a return to wanting to grow our minds and be challenged.
