Watching the evolution of computer processing: beginning at MSDOS to Windows 95, the advent of commercial access to the World Wide Web through America Online 1995 and the rise of an idea so innovative; the idea you could "search" for anything on this web of information in an instant with an up and coming website called Yahoo, I feel qualified to speak on this dangerous downward spiral.
Sadly, it is nothing original historically; it simply repeated a never ending cycle of corruption based upon the ideal of improving the human race. What was once a tool to spread knowledge from old single letter encyclopedias to free instant online dictionaries, a tool to bring humanity together as a collective mind for human progress and change, a tool to help us feel less alone and connected as a species, was weaponized and perverted by corruption and the selfishness inside us all.
Once designated spaces like AOL text chat which spawned the show "How to Catch a Predator" or Face to Face chat like the now defunct Omegle were originally made to meet other similar minded people and make connections. To no surprise, AOL chat had to be shut down and Omegle became one of the largest child abuse material rings and distributors to this day due to adults manipulating children into doing sexual acts they could not understand and recording it.
I grieve for what could have helped raise humanity to unlimited potential yet here we are; adults sexually harassing children due to their cherished innocence.
