People acting so weird being told the correct word for things?

I bonded with cousins at the farm, we were served some dark colored beer (almost black called Cerveza Negra) that has a familiar taste. I started telling the cousin beside me.. “I believe this is with Mascovado Sugar” As the color is instense dark due to molasses and she says “No! What Mascovado Sugar are you talking about? I rather say ___” lol she uttered a native term in which I rarely hear. She’s like being so annoyed with it. Weird. Even at Karaoke 🎤 since I am not in perfect tune.. I was told later with the same cousin “you know, I don’t force my voice that’s why I am never out of tune.” Sooo weird. 🤣😁🍻🍺
