On the cost of a lie
So let's imagine that you could lie and every story you spun gained you the esteem of others.
Let's also imagine that no matter how many tall tales you spun, nobody would ever find out.
At what point would the person you are portraying yourself to be so incompatible with who you truly are that you couldn't create anymore lies about yourself?
Some people just don't have a limit and that boggles my mind.
It makes sense to me at the very least if it was a lie to get some material thing. I can sympathize with that at least a little bit because I can understand it. But it doesn't make sense to me if that thing gained was just some ego boost. I feel like a lie is too expensive to trade for something cheap like an ego boost.
But apparently not everyone feels that way. I always find this surprising no matter how many times I encounter it in life.
