It's certainly a shallow understanding of the world. Most people get their information from social media and those systems are designed to deliver what each individual wants to see because that keeps people engaged for a long as possible. Social media sells your engagement. The more time they get you to be on their platform the more you sre worth to them. People want to see what makes them comfortable. So social media presents what they want to see. Presenting the truth is not part of that equation. Literally every single feed is personalized to feed confirmation bias. Sadly, most people don't question it and seek a broader and more nuanced view through additional sources. Even when they do, there's a whole host of crack pots spouting off out there.
