Why this modern addiction to witchcraft?

ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Seems like the major interest in witchcraft these days come from conservative churches using it as a trumped-up charge to attack innocent people who they disagree with. They get hysterical over things like Harry Potter.
People miss the enchantment and magic of life. The spirit of things has been taken out by mechanistic scientific explanations for everything.
What do you mean ? There’s always been an interest. If people are more open now, it’s probably because more can practice without being burned at the stake.

@SoulAsylum not exactly

@SW-User i use to have a friend who was into all those spells and tarot she really believed in it i found it interesting but i dont believe its real.
@SoulAsylum I used to do tarot readings and chart horoscopes when I was in college. It was a way of making extra money, but on my part it was strictly entertainment. I told a story here of the very last reading I did, several years ago, and how things turned out for the person.

I got into it because I almost died in a car accident 🤷‍♀️ so
How old are you? I thought that interest died off 20 years ago?
@SoulAsylum That expresses little how common it is now, but thanks.

@SoulAsylum I may be missing it... ;)

b/c people are seeing the shit show of orginized religion like Baptist and Catholic
SoulAsylum · 31-35, M
@RoxClymer all religion is the same mythology
RoxClymer · 41-45, M
@SoulAsylum
mythology has nothing to with celibate catholic priests assulting young boys or Southern Baptist having such a hold on the Texas government that abortion is now a felony.

people want to separate themselves from this garbage and are exploring other beliefs and religions.
Why are people still waiting on a zombie uprising after two millennia? It's just religion.

It's an empowerment + hipster thing, witch hunts being the historical context. Now they try to own the label and think they are so quirky or unique because who would ever want to identify with morbid and dark things. Turns out, lots of people but they all think the same. It's just like being emo

Everyone wants to be special... with superpowers. No one wants to be a humble average John Doe....

I experienced it. Also I saw some powerful witches in the dream.
Modern addiction? Kind of a weird choice of words.

This is nothing new. Like anything else the internet amplifies the visibility of all groups. And the rise in popularity is also not new. There has been a steady increase in our numbers since the 90s. I should know i have been at it that long.

powerlessness, uneducation, and a stereotypical image in the media.

the real ones are very rare.
I have been at this since this was the driving force behind the trend in the Craft.

I know, right? People should just go back to worshiping the zombie Jew on a stick instead.

I mostly lost any interest in the occult and mysticism after I got out of my teens
