I Am a Satanist

I find it interesting that everyone who has written in this group writes as if Satanism means worshiping Satan. That is quite ignorant. Most Satanists are actually atheist. They call themselves Satanists because they consider themselves the opposition to organized religion.

Those who are writing here about actually worshiping Satan, must have a different Satanic Bible than me. Anton Lavey just pretty much outlined a way of living, which contradicts biblical teaching.

Here are the seven tenets one is expected to adhere to within the Satanic Temple. You can find them on The Satanic Temple's website. (https://thesatanictemple.com/)

1. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

2. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

3. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

4.The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

5. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

6. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

7. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

My boyfriend and I attempted to join our local Satanic church and were denied because we were not atheist enough. It is all good though. We still hang out with our friends who are part of the Satanic Church and support their causes. They throw some awesome parties. :-D

Personally, I feel that I match all of their tenets, but apparently my perception of tenet number five is different than what they intended. They mean it as an atheistic quality, but I see the basis of my hermetic spiritual foundation as having scientific truth.

More accurately, I am a hermetic Pagan on the left-hand path, which means I dabble in what others consider the darker arts. Although, I don't consider my ways dark. Perceptions of dark and light are an indoctrinated concept, which I reject.

You were denied admission by the Satanists? Wow. I bet that makes for some good jokes. :)

I understand that Satanists are atheists, but there is something funny about them choosing the mythological bad guy of the Bible as the basis of their name. The misunderstanding is partly on them.

@JimmyBlue Yes, it is a running joke with my boyfriend and I. It is comical to be rejected. We still support them and hang out with our friends at events they host. They host concerts where all the profits actually go to the homeless shelters in my area.

I’m glad you get to party with them. It’s not like you were cast out of Hell or anything, and you don’t even have to pay dues. 😀

I've always respected the Satanic Temple. They do good work.

@affinityterra you guys have those abortion centers that are really pro-life groups that talk women out of abortions, don't you? That's messed up.
affinityterra · 46-50, F
@Dolimyte Yep, and we have laws that make it hard for women to get abortions or keep clinics from opening up in certain areas.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
@affinityterra Here we have easy access and it's paid for by the government.

I read a bit of Aleister Crowley and although I am Catholic didn't find it to be all that crazy or offensive
affinityterra · 46-50, F
@mrwhiterabbit Crowley was Pagan, not Satanist. He actually created his own hermetic church, called Thelema, which is a spin off of the Golden Dawn.

We could call the Ego and following the wants of ego desire as Satan. As it is self centered, self delusional.

Then perception needs testing for the truth, else again one can delude one self.

I rather live in each moment as it is...than to go down Rabbit Holes, those life pursuits, that appear to dazzle yet in the end go nowhere.

To know thyself
To be free
To be from concept of delusions or self perception

Gosh.. I remember that being a controversial misunderstanding when I was a teenager. That and the mentality that everything not Christianity was Satanism/golden calf at best. I didn’t realize it was still a source of confusion for so many. 🤷🏻‍♀️
[c=#359E00]which demon you worship?[/c]
affinityterra · 46-50, F
@YukikoAmagi I work with deity within the Lesser Keys of Solomon, but mostly align myself with being a daughter of Lilith.
@affinityterra [c=#359E00]i know Lilith, i'll check Lesser Keys of Solomon[/c]
affinityterra · 46-50, F
Actually, Lesser Keys of Solomon is the go to book for anyone involved with demonology.

It's great to see a down to earth explanation like this. Thanks for taking the time to post it
