A gean canach (or gancanagh, pronounced /ɡænˈkænə/) comes from Irish folklore meaning "love talker". It is a solitary male fairy known for lounging in lonely valleys, smoking a short clay pipe called a dudeen, and seducing human women such as milkmaids and shepherdesses.
