The Bean Nighe (pronounced ben-nee-yeh), or "little washer at the ford," is a Scottish fairy and death omen who haunts desolate streams, washing the blood-stained clothes of those about to die. As a type of banshee, she often appears as a hag with one nostril, one protruding tooth, and webbed feet.
