What even is the movie dune about except ripping off Arab/Muslim culture?

Hey that's not fair it also rips off a lot of Islamic theology.

It's a science fiction political epic that has a lot of mysticism and is broadly about a chosen one reconnecting with the deeper meaning of it all to beat the bad guys what killed his family.

@CountScrofula right? I'm watching it like hey this guy totally reminds me of the idea of Mahdi and then a few moments later in the movie I hear them actually use the name Mahdi.

Which idec about but it's hardly fantasy sci-fi if there's direct links there to existing beliefs

It spawned a whole breed of very very tedious guy.

@GlitterEater I don't know. I guess I look at my dad who is fifty this year and I just can't imagine him nerding out on something like Dune. Just doesn't compute for me. 🤷‍♀️

@sarabee1995 I'm in the diametrically opposite situation of yours, I couldn't imagine a fifty years old dude (and by extension my own father) NOT nerding out on Dune. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Went to watch the last one at the cinema specifically because he's pressured basically everyone to go watch it before even watching it himself
