I replied to a post in a semi witch group yesterday
The OP asked what they should do now that they discovered their witch friend was not their friend and cursing them.
😐
I hate this question so much, I can't even begin to put it to words.
I want to answer:
So what? They wasted their time. Get new friends. If they aren't supporting you, and only letting you support them, move on.
But that isn't what I said.
I said this instead:
Here's the secret to witchcraft:
It only works if you believe it does.
If you believe your friend is cursing you, then you are cursed.
If you believe your friend is being a bad friend, they are.
How to fix it:
Believe curses aren't real and that person isn't your friend. Leave them both behind and you are free from all of that mess.
I firmly believe this. 100% and it really is that easy.
The replies I got were...well, let's just say I always worry when I post these things. The gatekeepers, the "I'm a 5th generation witch..." the "God will protect you" (which opens a *whole* other bag of wtf that I just can't even get into. Christian witches are bizarre to me. I am not saying they can't and don't exist, because they can and do. I'm just saying they obviously don't understand witchcraft or paganism. At all.) and assorted other "curses are real!!! Witchcraft is real!!!"
Now listen, I love magical thinking the same as the next person, but my teaching, research and education on paganism and witchcraft, plus simply existing in the real logical world and accepting its boundaries, I can say with sincereity, magic isn't real. Witchcraft isn't real. Prayer doesn't work. Asking a divine being to help you, doesn't work. Never has. Never will.
What does work is the power you put into your rituals, your prayers, your spells, your meditations, and the intentions you use to help you find the ways to get what you want, then taking those actions to make it so.
If cursing an asshole makes you feel stronger, happier and removes them from your brain! Great! I hope it was completely successful! You deserve to not have shitbags mess up the life you want.
If you are waiting around to see if your curse worked...um...are you doing anything to help it along? If so, try to keep it legal. If you can't, just don't get caught. Otherwise, what exactly are you waiting for? Because they have to believe they are cursed to have any effects. The only thing you find is regret and anger nothing is happening.
So, if someone wants to beat a curse, just don't buy into the idea you've been cursed.
As I said in another reply:
Speaking as someone who was actually sent a curse in the mail (a dove's skull with runes carved into it) by someone who I knew didn't like me, and was confirmed as being sent by them, I can assure you, my lack of being willing to believe it was going to do harm made it ineffective.
Instead, I contacted the police and reported her for sending me dead animals through the post. They actually considered it a threat and a hate crime.
So, that curse didn't really work.
Lesson: The power of the curse is the power you give it.
