My explanation is distance and physics. So yeah. We really are alone on this planet. But human ego won't let some be OK with that.
Space is a big place. The distances to planets that could potentially have the building blocks of life are SO far away and would take SO much time to traverse, it's kind of silly to even consider it.

@Ynotisay though potentially technology could in time exponentially develop to the stage where such impossibilities in current scientific knowledge become possible…. even if we’ve only got a few billion more years on our tiny spec of dust….. ?

@InquisitiveMind Safe to say AI will be running the show well before then. And life won't be able to tolerate the environment in a billion years. If anything survives it will be done indoors.
