In addition to the reasons everyone else has posted as to why I don't, there's a very simple way that anybody with a few hundred dollars can prove it was real. Purchase an astronomical telescope, then go to the following website:

In the source documentation for the article, you'll find another website that contains the locations of several reflectors. Wait for a full moon, point your telescope at the moon, then use the website to find each reflector.
