I Believe That The Earth May Actually Be Flat

I don't really believe the earth is flat but I had a philosophy professor that was the president of the local flat earthers.
He was one of the most popular professors at the university I went to. When you asked him what proof do you have, he would counter with show me your proof.
He and his wife had a campus radio show and he would talk and she would chant in the background "things like this, things like that, everyone knows the earth is flat". Nights there was a full moon they would go out and howl at it.
The point is and always would be to him is to question everything, nothing is ever happening to you exactly as it was before. That you should disregard everything learned from past experiences and live in the moment, that each situation is unique and deserves your attention.
Was he right? That's how I try to live.

He should avoid physics and stick to philosophy

@OldHippie We have a millionaire entrepreneur here called Dick Smith who is also an avid pilot and was once head of our civil aviation authority. When this flat earth thing started to come back into fashion he offered to pay for a group of flat earther's and a camera crew to fly continuously right around the world but no one accepted. I personally don't think any of them actually believe it, they just use it as a vehicle to help promote their other interests etc... like this guy uses it for philosophy etc.

@SW-User Its because deep down none of them believe it, their just trying to make a point of not being sheep and believing everything your told to believe
SW-User
@OldHippie I think you're right, and that's the philosophical aspect that i like about it. Good post btw.

@SW-User He had bushy hair and a beard he kept his pens and pencils in. There was only 50 in the class and you had to be on your toes all the time with him. He really was a good man for an Aussie lol
SW-User
@OldHippie Lol that's great to hear! Did he have one of our funny accents too?
OldHippie · 61-69, M
The accent was perfect, but you have to remember in Canada there's a lot of Aussies and Brits and Scots and Irish so it's not out of place. I played university rugby and half our team was from overseas

@OldHippie Ah i see, yes Canada is a very popular place for Aussies. I know of many who go to work in the ski resorts. It's a place i've always wanted to visit.
OldHippie · 61-69, M
There's a lot of Aussies that go to Whistler and Banff. That's why you do so well at the Olympics in snowboarding events.
We're part of the Commonwealth, you don't need special papers to come for a visit, but you need at least a month if you want to see the whole country. You can get a train pass that takes you coast to coast.
SW-User
@OldHippie The train pass sounds like a great way to go, then with that and staying at AirBnb's it'd wouldn't be too expensive. I'd come during summer to avoid the cold... although it would be interesting to see just a day of full-on winter.

@SW-User Its our national railway and the government promotes the hell out of it for tourists. You could probably get a great deal, they may even help with tours or accomodations.
There's always snow in the mountains no matter what time of year in British Columbia, you wouldn't see a storm, but you could see snow.
