Exactly what would we do if a fleet of spacecraft landed and 10,000 aliens disembarked?

Friendly or hostile?
Would our Leaders attempt to blast them out of existence?

If an alien civilisation has managed to transport 10,000 members across thousands of light years, we have no hope whatsoever of blasting them into anything except possibly great laughter. The most we can do is hope they're more like ET and not Independence Day.

(IMHO if they've come this way and not immediately obliterated earthly life from orbit, they're probably not interested in hurting anyone, so it's best to try and be friends)
