From Rakhiv drive 22 km east along the territorial highway T0721 to Luga village or Hoverla village and then 10-12 km along the Chernogorsky massif. Hoverla and then 10-12 km along Chernogora massif, the lake is located on the southern slope of Mount Brebeneskul.
The picturesque Ukrainian Carpathians have many tourist routes, each of which will impress any guest of these fabulous places. The natural pictures that open to the eye capture the imagination, inspire and give incomparable emotions. Walks to the mountain lakes lying above the clouds, one of which is Breskul, are considered particularly impressive.
Lake Breskul is located on the southwestern slope of Mount Brebeneskul, one of the peaks of the beautiful Montenegrin reserve massif 1911 meters above sea level. It is one of the highest Carpathian lakes, lying at an altitude of 1750 meters, and despite its relatively small size, it impresses all those who climb Brebeneskul to see it.
The water mirror of Breskul stretches 12-15 meters wide and about 37 meters long, but the lake used to be larger — about 20 meters wide and 50 meters long. Its shores gradually narrow, overgrown with alpine and subalpine vegetation. The depth of Breskul is about 1.2 meters, but due to the crystal clarity of the water, its bottom, covered with dark silt, is clearly visible from the shores.
As for the name of the lake and the eponymous mountain on which it is located, it goes back to the Hutsul word for «swelling, tumor». The mountain received such an unromantic name because of its dome-shaped form, and the lake has already become its successor.
Like many other Carpathian lakes, Breskul is of glacial origin. Today it is mainly fed by atmospheric precipitation. The transparent waters of the lake are poorly mineralized, and there are only microscopic crustaceans in them.
If you make a tourist trip to Breskul, you can get bright and pleasant impressions for a long time. The panorama opening from the slope of the mountain is an amazing, beautiful sight: mountain peaks shrouded in mist, piercing clouds, bright carpets of alpine and subalpine vegetation covering their slopes, nearby proudly rises the largest in the country Mount Hoverla — the highest point of the country with a height of 2061 meters. Having seen such a picture once, it is impossible to forget it ever, so for everyone who prefers ecological tourism in Ukraine climbing Mount Breskul to the lake of the same name will be an invaluable experience that will pleasantly complement holiday in Rakhiv, will give the brightest emotions and impressions.
